Teacher: Marge Veelmaa
Marge Veelmaa is a skilled weaver and researcher specializing in traditional Estonian textile techniques. With a Master's degree in Cultural Heritage, she blends historical knowledge with contemporary design. Her company, Tuulesttekstiil, offers unique woven textiles and courses on drawloom weaving.
The drawloom weaving technique is over a thousand years old. It arrived in Europe from the East alongside silk weaving and spread further across Europe through Spain and Italy. In Estonia, drawloom weaving was introduced from the Nordic countries at the turn of the last century. A 1933 crafts magazine for rural women published a drawing on how to make a drawloom attachment for weaving looms. Handwritten, old pattern books contain many beautiful designs that can still be woven today on looms equipped with a drawloom.
During this one-day workshop, you'll weave a piece of cloth and finish it into a small tablecloth. The warp of the fabric is pre-wound on drawlooms, so the workshop focuses solely on the weaving process.
All materials and tools are included in the participation fee.
